- Llenyd Price
Llenyd Price is currently studying towards an MFA at Whitecliffe College of Arts and
Design. Within his practice he deals with issues concerning land in Aotearoa (New
Zealand).
Through learning about the native flora of Aotearoa he found himself finding
ways to access areas which were rich in native biodiversity; these locations were, a
majority of the time, close to his home. However finding himself trying to fit in or
do ‘right’ in the hope that he is respectful to the surroundings in which they seem to
arrive.
Through an internal questioning of self-identity, Llenyd would investigate his own
place in relation to landscape. As interested in the natural bush near his home in
Kirikiriroa, he quickly realised that the natural history of Aotearoa was layered and
conflicted. Llenyd attempts to highlight these issues through an investigation of
landscape painting. The paintings derive from drawings and photographs taken from
specific locations within the Waikato where he has been walking and exploring.
